I decided to reorganize the categories a bit and start using tags as well. The post will now be put in pre-defined categories and then tagged as whatever I think is appropriate. For this, I’ve added a tag cloud page which can be found on the sidebar to the right. I’ve also changed the way archives pages looked. They will no long show the post content. Instead, they’ll just list the title, category, and tags for each post. Tag archive will follow the same format.

Also added a bit of holiday spirit, in case you’re so oblivious that you didn’t notice that (or are reading from the feed.)

It’s 8am and I’m wondering what I’m doing up so early. Oh wait.. have I slept?

Yesterday I made a ‘video’ of the a song I used to like as a kid. When I tried to upload it on YouTube, it redirects to the login page (in a logged off state) after ‘uploading’ for sometime. When I log back in to check my list of videos, the song vid hasn’t been uploaded. Maybe I have too many script, ads, cookies plug-ins for Firefox that it’s preventing sites to function normally. I altered the settings a few times and still failed to upload it in 4 attempts. I resorted to IE which worked on first try. I embedded it into my post with a WordPress plug-in since HTML codes isn’t very compatible with my theme. (Update @ 11:45am: Plain HTML embed codes are now working fine.)

It was all fine until I started poking around other forms of viewing the blog post. Then I realized, the YouTube video tag I used for the plug-in ends up as plain text in RSS feeds and search results. How annoying! I browsed around the source code, trying to figure out why the plug-in is only applied to the typical view of a post. I was semi-successful in that I got rid of the plain text video tag but now the whole notion of having a video in that post disappeared. But while I was at it, I updated the theme style a bit, widening the post column and fixing a few inconsistencies in various views.

While searching for solutions, I found out that version 2.5 of WordPress was released 2 days ago. I haven’t updated the platform since I installed it at version 2.2.1. Hoping it might have better support of videos, I upgraded to version 2.5. I was quite exciting when I noticed the ‘Add Video’ icon on the post editor. However, when I typed the URL of the video and gave it a title, it merely gave me a link to the video as opposed to embedding it. The attempt in fixing video embeds fails once again.

On the bright side I got a little familiar with parts of the WordPress source code but figuring it all out will have to wait. Right now, I need some sleep. Note I started this around 1:30am.
