Nostalgic Song
March 30, 2008 - 12.17When I was 7 or 8 around 5 (an uncertain estimate), I got a CD of cartoon songs from my aunt. I never heard of any of the songs in that CD but I grew to like a couple of them. Today I was browsing more blog pictures from TAF2008 where the blogger posted a Macross video along with his photos of some Macross merchandise. Upon listening to the song in the anime clip, I recognized the melody right away. It’s one of the songs from the CD! The only difference would be this was in Japanese and the one I used to listen to was in Cantonese.
I learn that the song is called Ai Oboete Imasuka (Do you remember love) by Iijima Mari as Lynn Minmay, a character from the Macross series. The Macross series is futuristic, science fictional drama involving mechas, military themes. While I never saw the original series, or many of its sequels or movies, I did watch the short 5 episodes OVA Macross Zero. As it was the 25th anniversary of the Macross franchise last year, a new series Macross Frontier is produced as the anniversary work. I’ve already saw the early premiere episode in December and will definitely follow it when the rest of the series airs starting April 3rd.
