Filling the Gap: Watching
December 14, 2007 - 15.43Dramas
I watched a bit of Taiwanese drama in the last month but they annoy me just as much as the Hong Kong ones. The two that I saw were Silence and Hana Kimi. The stories and acting are both very mediocre.
Then I borrowed Band of Brothers DVDs from the library. It’s a story about a particular group of American paratroopers in WWII. I always enjoy looking at historical events so this was a good mini-series. The only problem I had with it was recalling the names of the large amount of characters.
Apart from old stuff, I keep current with Chuck and Amazing Race. It seems the screenwriter strike is getting to Chuck. At least, Amazing Race won’t be affected. Go TK and Rachel.
Movies
After watching Band of Brothers, I wanted to see sometime from the ‘enemy side’. I end up watching Downfall which depicts the last few days on Germany end before they surrender. It was a long film, at 2.5 hours. I find it a little boring. Everything was kind of in a mad scramble. People suiciding. Soldiers partying and getting drunk. It was quite as I expected but then it was the end of it, I shouldn’t be expecting a forceful resistance anyway.
Last week, my sister got free vouchers to an early presentation of the The Golden Compass. Since last time we were too late to get the tickets for Beowulf, my sister headed to the theater in the afternoon to exchange the vouchers for tickets. We then arrived that night around half an hour early for seats. And surprise, the theater was jam packed. We sat in the front row! The movie was decent. I never read the book so I can’t make comparisons. However, the movie didn’t feel very conclusive. It’s as if a sequel is to ensue some time later. Before the movie, I thought Daniel Craig was a main character. He was probably in less than 5 scene which makes me wonder why he had to play that role.
Animes
I watch too many of these to list them all. Haha.
