Filling the Gap: Playing

Super Mario Galaxy [Wii]
I haven’t played this as much. I tend to wait for my sister to be free, which isn’t often, to play it together. So far, it has been quite fun. It is one of the rare Wii games that utilizes the Wiimote so well. (I was about to destroy the controls for Zelda.) The various planets are rather small and it had been relatively easy to go through them. The storyline isn’t linear which allows the players to enter whichever planet they feel like as lock as you have enough stars to unlock them.

Contra 4 [DS]
Too hard. I got to stage 3 on easy mode and gave up. Due to the lack of save and limited lifes, I just end up playing the same stage over and over again. It got kind of boring after awhile.

Cooking Mama 2: Dinner with Friends [DS]
I was a fan of the first Cooking Mama so when 2 came out, I had to try it. There were new recipes and new cooking methods, which added to the fun. I think I played too much so some stuff got a little repetitive. I beat the game, earn gold on all dishes in both cooking with mama and cooking for friends mode. I still don’t get what the bonus gifts are all about. One new thing with Cooking Mama 2 is customize item which allow the player to dress Mama in different outfits as well as change the look of the kitchen.

Mario Party [DS]
There’s no wifi mode!!! !@#!@$!@ It was rather boring playing with the AI……….

Final Fantasy XII Revenant Wings [DS]
I can finally say I’ve played FF games. This was the first FF game I’ve completed. Although I tried FFIII, I was nowhere near finishing it. Anyway, Revenant Wings is a mission based real time strategy game. The characters have less flexibility with the class and skill chosen but I actually find that better. It was one less thing to worry about. In the battles, the characters can summon little helpers called espers. Movement, attacks are all controlled through the touchscreen with the stylus. I enjoyed the game overall. It was a relatively easy game but several battles are a bit tougher. There are some parts of the game that I dislike as well. With a lot of characters and espers cram onto the tiny DS screen as once, sometimes it is extremely difficult to manage. Picking a particular group of characters and espers is hard. Also the character movement is a bit strange at times. If I select someone from the middle of the group to walk to another spot, most of the time he’s stuck walking into everyone around him. I guess it’s not really a game for micromanagement.

Super Mario Bros [DS]
I’ve been playing this on and off for 7 months but I’ve finally beaten it. I also got to World 4 and 7 with only the boss castle on world 7 left to beat. Well, then there’s all those hidden passage and world to go through as well. And not to mention all the coins I’m still missing!

Geometry Wars Galaxy [DS]
This game reminds me of the old school space shooters. The player basically controls a drone that flows around and shoot at the various geometric shapes enemies. It’s kind of a pointless game but surprisingly addictive (for me at least).
