New Printer
August 18, 2007 - 0.45Been researching a bit on different laser printers recently. I was almost going to buy the Samsung ML2010 since there was a $30 mail-in rebate. It is an older model and uses USB1.1 which didn’t really matter if I was just printing small amounts of text. I went on Future Shop’s site today and checked if there was any new sales for laser printers and surely, there was one for the Samsung ML2510. It’s a newer model and uses USB2.0. After some price comparison, the 2510 was around the same price as the 2010 even after rebate. So I dropped by Future Shop on my way home after getting a haircut and picked it up. To my surprise, I wasn’t charged with the newly implemented BC environmental handling fee which should have cost $8 + tax extra. So the ML2510 actually ends up being around 50 cents cheaper than the 2010. And if you count postal and the hassle of mailing in rebates, the 2510 was a better buy. After getting home, I received an e-mail from Future Shop about a family, student and friends sale on Sunday which includes 10% of printers. But some restrictions may apply on discounted items. So I haven’t open the box in case the 10% does apply and I’ll have to return this and buy it again.
Another thing about this printer, the Samsung toner is actually more expensive than the printer itself (at Future Shop). But supposedly the included toner only prints 1000 pages as opposed to 3000 pages with regular toner. I really doubt I’ll be printing THAT much anytime soon. That leads to the question why did I buy a laser printer for my infrequent printing needs? Well, I do need a printer at times. My experience with inkjet is horrible since the ink ALWAYS dry up on me when I need to print. So I’m going to try out a laser.
